Selected Works
2008–

The Selected Works are produced from works that were not exhibited for one reason or another and were subsequently shredded, mixed with water, and put into industrial cement mixers for 24 to 48 hours. Once thoroughly mixed and the cellulose materials have broken down (the vast majority of the works produced in the studio are plant based, such as paper or cotton fiber), they are poured into a mold and allowed to dry outdoors for 2 to 3 weeks (depending on time of year and weather conditions). These reconstituted slabs are then exhibited as wall-based works. The appearance of the works in the series changes over time depending on the types of works produced in the studio. The Selected Works are first exhibited alongside the bodies of work they were produced in tandem with, their size being determined by the exact or average sizes of the shredded works comprising them. For instance, a Selected Works made primarily of shredded and reconstituted Three Color Curl works is 50 x 90 inches, the average size of the Three Color Curl works.

Titling Convention:

The titling convention for the Selected Works includes the years of works shredded and included in the mixture, and the dates of production. The date attributed to the work is the year of its first exhibition, which is separate from the production date included in the work’s title. A final description of the work, for example one that would appear on a wall didactic in an exhibition space, might read:

Selected Works (2009–2011/November 15, 2010–March 16, 2011)
2011
Color photographic paper, black and white photographic paper, archival inkjet papers
51 x 91 inches
